Relationships vs. Results

Let?s face it: as leaders we love to see results. Whether it is measured by high attendance, solid profit margins, numbers of readers or copies sold, we equate success with results.

It is no surprise, then, that often times we will let relationships suffer for the sake of results. We will answer texts or calls when with valued friends. We will hold committed employees to corporate red tape. We will turn down engagements to put in extra hours. We sacrifice time with loved ones to make just a few dollars more. We will miss the big picture.

Do you think I am over-generalizing?

According to research done by Roper Starch Worldwide, when asked, ?Would you rather have a $10,000-a-year raise or an extra hour a day to spend at home with your family?? 83% of those surveyed said they would take the cash?even though 91% had indicated earlier that making their personal lives more of a priority was important to them.

When leaders sacrifice relationships for the sake of results, they are sacrificing more than they can afford to lose.

  • Relationships produce synergetic work environments.
  • Relationships evoke stronger commitment.
  • Relationships create engagement and participation.
  • Relationships cultivate new relationships.

If you want to develop an effective organizations or have effective ministry, you must value relationships and results.

What other benefits do you see in valuing relationships?

Installation of Garage Storage Shelves - Orozcopardo Home Improvement

To many people, the garage is more than a parking state. It may also aid as a home office, as a gym, or even as a workshop. Rarely do people withhold their sporting equipment, tools and machines in places other than the garage. If you are using your garage primarily as a storage facility, you definitely need to acquire up shelves for better organization.

You have two choices for your garage storage shelves: catch them on-site or earn them prefabricated. If you are handy with tools, the better choice is custom building your garage storage shelves. More than the savings, you also obtain to optimize the available residence. Check your local home center, hardware or discount store and the sail yard for your supplies.

You can initiate a simple garage shelf using a section of plywood, about three quarters of an promenade thick, or 1?2 feet of rush status on heavy-duty shelf brackets. dwelling the brackets to the studs with long screws. Next, residence aside the garage storage shelf to the shelf brackets. Strengthen the shelf by adding a brace at each stud.

Your other choice is to procure floor-supported garage storage shelves. One map is to array 2?4 wooden bars vertically, 50 inches apart. Stand the bars on the floor then conclude the tops to the rafters or trusses. Then, run another space of 2x4s horizontally in-between the standing bars. stunning add particle boards to salvage the shelves. Average measurements primitive by others are about 19 to 25 inches deep while the set between the bars is typically 25 inches. Of course, you can change the specs to have the different sizes of the items you want to store in your garage.

If you are keeping cramped items, try to work on the area in between the studs. What you can do is region a series of strips, about 1?2, to the inside edges of two nearby studs. Arrange them horizontally with a distance of 6 inches between each other. Then, slash a few pieces of toddle measuring 1?4 and 1?6 which you can fit between the studs. lag them on top of the 1?2 strips and you have got adjustable shelves, limited enough for jars, bottles, cans and other light items. They also earn sizable organizers for nails and screws.

If you win prefabricated garage storage shelves, your best choice is steel shelving. Shelves made of plastic are satisfactory only for light items and you will need the sturdier steel shelves to hold the heavier items. However, you will earn that you will have to employ the steel shelves ?as is? since they cannot be modified to fit your wants. Anyway, they are manufactured following standard measurements so you can choose the specs that will meet your requirements.

When choosing prefabricated shelves, you must determine those that are adjustable to allow flexibility when storing items of different dimensions. obtain those that can be adjusted to at least two different heights within the same structure. Check the pins as they need to be heavy duty and can lock the shelves tight without coming out loose or getting dislodged.

Another distinguished aspect of prefabricated garage storage shelves should you choose this option is that they may have to be attached to the wall or require some conclude of wait on to avoid tipping. This is notorious if you intend to use them for heavy loads.

Need A Cheaper Alternative To Moving? Get Home Improvements ...

Home improvements are a good way to make your own home a more pleasing location to spend time in, in addition to adding value to your property, which could be of help in the long run if you should come to sell. The scope of your home improvements Haslemere projects vary from refurbishing and redecorating your interiors to building new extensions, converting existing spaces for instance lofts and garages to making the switch to make your house more energy-efficient.

Your first concern when planning any type of home improvement is why you?re going ahead with your plans ? i.e. what do you want to achieve as an end result? If it?s more space then perhaps you need an extension, if you wish to make better use of your current space then you would be much better choosing a loft conversion or garage conversion.

Extensions provide a cost-effective alternative to moving house, particularly if you live in an area where house prices are on the increase. If you love where you live but just need that living space to be bigger, then an extension is the best choice. As with all home improvements Haslemere you will need to ensure that plans are drawn up correctly and approved by your local planning authority and that you select an approved, reliable building company to carry out your extension works.

Garage conversions are a great way to breathe new life into your garage space. If, like most people, you don?t use your garage to park your car, you?ll find that the space becomes a haven for unwanted junk. Having a garage conversion can make far better use of that space with the minimum amount of disruption to the rest of the household. They make great spare bedrooms or home offices but again you will need to check with your local planning authority before you begin your conversion project.

Whatever type of home improvements Haslemere you are planning, from landscaping your garden to building an extension on the rear of your house, it goes without saying that you will need to plan ahead both in terms of contractors and also costs. How to Hire the Right Programmer for Your Online Business | Top ...

Whether you?re a webmaster, blogger or an Internet marketer, you will at some point need to hire a freelance programmer for your online business. The truth is ? if you just walk into it blindly, then you are risking a lot including paying more than you have to. There are no guarantees just because of the presence of too many factors and variables, but if you become more knowledgeable the odds of success increase dramatically. If you want to be very sure of what you are doing, then you will pay attention and learn as much as you can.

It is always in your potential best interests to keep a professional demeanor with any contractor you engage. When you are in business, you really can never have too many people in your professional network. This is much like hiring a permanent employee who you like and does an excellent job ? so you will naturally want to retain that person. Let your programmer know that you will be providing them with an ongoing work if they?re good, which will also act as a motivational booster for him. Having an ongoing communication with your programmer helps during the hiring process. The information you are able to provide, about anything, will help to keep things on track and moving forward. There is nothing wrong with giving feedback, but avoid distracting the programmer from the task at hand. Opinions and ideas are fine, but just remember that the programmer is the person you hired for the expertise. Once you?ve struck a deal, then the whole feedback giving process shouldn?t stop, but rather be taken to the next level. Every good programmer expects to share a strong relationship with their client, so always keep this in mind.

Programming is all about logic, so when you?re looking for a programmer, your aim should be to find who is a clear thinker. You cannot administer any kinds of tests, so sometimes you may feel like there is not a lot to go on. Try to marry the person?s previous accomplishments on the same scale of what your needs are.

It doesn?t really matter what kind of software project you?re hiring a programmer for, it could be as simple as designing a script, but getting the right person for the job is massively important if you want to get good results. We have seen numerous software applications that we believe could have a higher level of quality, and that all comes back to programming and the right priorities.

Retired Redskinette and Ballerina Tap Olympic Spirit to Inspire Girls

Montgomery Country, MD (PRWEB) August 10, 2004

The Summer Olympic Games inspire and captivate young Americans, especially the gymnastics competition, where team USA excels. However, not every young girl can meet the tough disciplinary and athletic skills demanded by gymnastics, even though she wants very much to get involved in team athletics. That?s where competitive cheerleading comes in. Dream Team Cheer accepts children of all shapes, sizes, and skill levels. The coaches nurture as well as train young women in elements of dance and tumbling, while working to bring out the confidence of each member of the club. The schedule is full, but not overwhelming, and special emphasis is on fulfilling educational and familial obligations while enjoying the spirit and sport of cheerleading.

Lisa Burke, co-founder and program director of Dream Team Cheer, has 30 years experience with cheer teams, on the junior high, high school, college and NFL levels. She was a member of the NFL cheerleading squad, the Redskinettes, as well as a squad captain, from 1988 until 1991. Before coming to DC, Lisa was a professional cheerleader with the New England Patriots. Lisa holds a BS in Systems Engineering from Boston University.

Lisa says that cheerleading teams ?were a refuge and support system for my life ever since I was a little girl.?

Andrea Needle, co-founder and executive director of Dream Team Cheer has over 25 years experience in the performing arts. She has danced with and received training in choreography from the San Francisco Ballet, the Milwaukee Ballet, the Sacramento Ballet and the Banff Center of Performing arts in Ontario, Canada. Andrea is bonded to the Washington area having graduated from the American University (class of ?92) with a BA in Psychology, and having taught dance and movement at the Holton-Arms School in Bethesda, Maryland.

Andrea says, ?Dream Team Cheer gives me the chance to share the invaluable lessons of self-discipline, dedication, hard work and goal setting with young women. It?s a privilege to have a positive impact on young lives.?

Tryouts are regularly scheduled at Gymnastics of America, 602-A East Diamond Avenue, Gaithersburg. Directions available at http://www.dreamteamcheer.com

Additional Topics of Discussion:

What do Cheering and Gymnastics have in common?

Is Cheerleading a ?sport?? Does it need to be better regulated?

There are scholastic opportunities available for cheerleaders that many young women don??t know about.

How popular is competitive cheerleading in Washington, DC area?

What?s the difference between in-school, and outside-of-school clubs or teams?

Is there too much emphasis on looks and figures, rather than spirit and esteem?

What lessons can girls in organized sports get from watching the summer games on TV?

Dual-Boot Tablet Is Double Dose of Disaster

There?s a really famous road ? maybe you know it. It?s paved with good intentions. And by now you should know all too well where it leads.

It must have been aggravating for ViewSonic ? which has made Windows-based tablet PCs since 2001 ? to see its market destroyed by the Apple iPad in 2010. So the company did what it (and everyone else has) had to do: embrace Android.

The result is the ViewSonic ViewPad 10, a 10-inch, dual-booting Windows-Android tablet with a lot of heart and lofty goals, and an utter disaster on nearly every front.

To be fair, Android is a whole new world to ViewSonic, and when you boot the device to Windows, the machine isn?t half-bad. That isn?t to say it didn?t have its share of bugs: It took an hour of futzing just to get the two USB ports to work, and I experienced crashes nearly every day I used it. But if you really need Windows in a 1.9-pound slate-tablet design, the ViewPad 10 is at least passable.

It couldn?t complete any of our actual benchmarks ? likely due to its 1.6-GHz Atom CPU and just 2 GB of RAM. But it was responsive enough in normal use compared to my low expectations, likely in no small part due to the inclusion of an SSD hard drive ? though it?s only 32 GB.

To switch to Android mode, you have to reboot Windows, then push the right button at the right time when the OS choice prompt appears. Once into Android, well, the fun never starts.

The ViewPad 10 originally shipped with Android 1.6, and only during the first week of May did I finally receive the upgrade to 2.2. I used the tablet extensively in both environments. Neither is likely to be in any way satisfactory to even the most casual tablet user. There?s no delicate way to put it, except to say that with Android there is no facet of the device with which I didn?t experience a problem.

To wit: When booting, it often froze or fell back to a Linux command prompt instead of booting into the Android GUI. The Android Market is not installed on the device. ViewSonic says Google won?t allow it on 10-inch tablets.

Instead you get the cut-rate AndAppStore with a paltry number of apps available. That doesn?t really matter much, though. Downloaded apps only installed successfully about half the time. No manner of fussing could get Angry Birds running on this machine.

There is no Flash, of course (ViewSonic blames Adobe), and battery life was even lower on Android (3 hours, 10 minutes) than on Windows (3 hours, 30 minutes). Perhaps that?s because the ViewPad?s screen doesn?t auto-dim or suspend in Android, and there are no options available to make that possible.

Nor are there any volume buttons. Nor do the home and back buttons work properly: The home button takes you back. The back button brings up contextual menus. If you?re an Android phone user, you will never get used to this, nor should you want to.

With all of the product?s Android problems, it feels almost petty to complain about the weird decision to place the 10.1-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) screen off-center, the very dim LCD, and the difficulty of interacting with tiny Windows prompts using a fingertip. Instead I?ll just leave it at that, urging you to look elsewhere for your mobile-computing needs.

WIRED Passable in Windows environment, just barely.

TIRED Android implementation is an utter debacle. Buyers should ignore it completely and stick with Windows. Buggy from front to back, and from boot to shutdown. Reviewer feels bad that someone may get fired because of this review.

Former Texas Gov. Clements Dead At 94

Former Gov. Bill Clements, who in 1979 became the first Republican elected governor in Texas since Reconstruction and whose belief that state government should operate like a big business helped change the face of Texas politics, has died. He was 94.

Clements, who served two terms as governor despite losing his first re-election bid, died Sunday at a Dallas-area hospital, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst said. A former Texas oilman, Clements had been in failing health for the past year because of a stroke, state Rep. Harvey Hilderbran told the House floor Sunday.
The Texas House then honored Clements with a moment of silence.

"As the father of the modern day Texas Republican Party, Gov. Clements is responsible for the growth, success and election of Texas Republicans in every corner of our state," Gov. Rick Perry said. "Today, Texans and Americans have lost a leader whose leadership, service and patriotism were unparalleled."

Clements looked to completely change the face of Texas politics when he took office in 1979. He saw his first term in office as a major change in the way the state operated.

"It is the largest business in Texas and yet we run it like it was a soda water stand ? or a barbecue stand," Clements said shortly before turning over the chief executive's job to Democrat Mark White, who upset his re-election bid in 1982.

White, a lawyer, was part owner of a barbecue firm in the Central Texas town of Valley Mills.

Clements came back four years later to defeat White.

"I think that what happened in the last four years is without a doubt a new page in our Texas history in the management of our state government," Clements said at the end of his first term.

Clements' second term was marred from the beginning by his involvement in a pay-for-play football scandal at Southern Methodist University, which led the NCAA to suspend the football program for two years. Clements was chairman of the school's governing board between his terms as governor and acknowledged participating in the decision to let the payments continue.

Tragedy struck the Clements family last year when his son, B. Gill Clements, was found shot to death and buried in a shallow grave behind a home adjacent to the Clements' East Texas ranch. B. Gill Clements was apparently shot by a neighbor who was known for using an assault weapon to guard his property. Authorities shot and killed the neighbor.

William Perry Clements Jr. was born and reared in Dallas, attending Highland Park High School where he was an all-state football lineman. He turned down athletic scholarship offers from several colleges to work in South Texas oil fields when his father, a real estate man and farmer, found the Depression tough going.

After eight years as an oil roughneck and driller, he graduated from Southern Methodist in 1939.

In 1947, he and I.P. Larue launched SEDCO Inc. with borrowed funds and two old drilling rigs. He bought out Larue in 1955 for $1.2 million.

SEDCO, an oil and gas drilling company, operated throughout the world with several subsidiaries. SEDCO merged with Schlumberger Limited in 1984 and Clements retired as chairman a year later.

The multimillionaire Dallas oilman turned back early attempts of Texas Republicans to recruit him for statewide political races but worked actively in the party.

He also was active in civic and professional posts, including membership on the board of governors of SMU and the national executive board of the Boy Scouts of America.

After heading Richard Nixon's 1972 presidential campaign in Texas, Clements served as deputy secretary of defense for the U.S. Department of Defense from 1973 to 1977.

At the urging of his wife, Rita, a former national GOP committeewoman he called his "secret weapon," Clements decided to campaign for governor in 1978.
First he swamped Ray Hutchinson of Dallas, former state GOP chairman, in the party primary. Then he defeated Democrat John Hill by 16,900 votes in November 1978.

Clements warned Texas lawmakers about what he called their "letter to Santa Claus" attitude toward state revenues based largely on oil and gas taxes, which later turned downward.

After the 1979 legislative session, Clements bragged about a .760 batting average on his legislative requests.

His chief regret, he said in 1983, was to leave unfinished the task of the Texas 2000, a blue ribbon committee he commissioned to chart the state's priorities through the rest of the century.

"I would say the inability to complete this look into the future, this ability to have a vision of where we are going and how we are going to get there could well be the single most important regret that I have," Clements told reporters.

Within months of leaving office, Clements underwent hip joint replacement surgery to correct an old injury that bothered him throughout his political campaigns. He quickly recovered and soon was back in political and civic circles.

President Ronald Reagan named him a member of the Blue Ribbon Defense Panel that looked into the nation's Central American activities.

In June 2009, Clements gave $100 million to UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, the largest single gift in the medical research center's 66-year history. Clements said he wanted to help UT Southwestern continue to encourage scientific discovery and innovation, prepare the next generation of doctors and ensure the delivery of world-class medical care.

Free Web Tool Muro Fuels sWooZie?s Super Stick Figure Videos

Powered by Ritz crackers and Sour Patch Kids, Adande Thorne works late into the night creating the worlds in which his frenetic stick-figures live. But even when he?s working so diligently that he doesn?t notice that the sun came up, he is still churning out his short films much faster than he used to, back when he made his animations with a Sharpie, some pencils and a scanner.

Now he whips up his web-ready doodles in muro, an HTML5-based illustration tool created by artist networking site deviantArt. The free, web-based software, still in beta, allows Thorne to create a five-minute video in about two weeks, cutting his work time nearly in half.

sWooZie makes internet videos using muro.Image courtesy Adande Thorne

?I used to draw with paper and pen and scan it and go through this long tedious process and then one day a friend was like ?Dude, why don?t you just jump on muro??? Thorne told Wired.com. ?When I started messing around with it, it cut down so much on the footwork I had to do. It just blew up after that.?

With its simple interface and sleek design, muro puts digital tools in the hands of people typically accustomed to working with brushes and canvas or pens and paper ? it?s like Adobe Illustrator for non-pros. Originally designed to allow deviantArt members to add simple sketches to the site?s lively forums, muro put an easy-to-master tool in the hands of artists who use it to create a wild variety of works.

That?s exactly what someone like Thorne needed. Better known by the nom de art sWooZie, Thorne makes the kind of videos the internet loves: comedy acted out by slick and cute animations, complete with fight scenes and tricked-out DeLoreans.

The video that gained him internet fame (read: a post on Gawker) used a series of stick-figure animations to illustrate his miscreant behavior as a Walt Disney World employee. It topped a quarter-million YouTube views within a few days of its posting in January.

He followed that up with ?Cheating in High School? and eventually ?Super Sick Stick Figure Fight [FTW],? which went up in April and was the first of five installments he sees as his summer blockbuster. (See the second, ?Cute College Girls [FTW],? which was released Friday, above.)

Thorne?s process is deeply rooted in the web?s DIY aesthetic. The artist, who also happens to be a pro gamer, shoots videos of sets in his home or out in the wild in Orlando, Florida, where he lives. He then illustrates and animates his characters on top of those images. His concepts definitely lean toward the nerdy ? videogame references and lightsaber fights ? but he?s got a style all his own. (See how sWooZie made his latest video below.)

His style is starting to pay off. Thorne, who completed a one-year program in computer animation at the Digital Animation and Visual Effects School, now makes between $1,000 and $2,000 a month from his videos through YouTube?s partner program. He once made $500 a day from a single clip.

?I used to work at the Hard Rock Hotel [as a lifeguard] making $400 every two weeks after taxes, and now I?m getting a little bit more than that just from uploading videos to the internet,? Thorne said.

There?s very little overhead. Since muro is a free program, Thorne incurs few costs beyond his time investment and the few die-cast car models he buys as props. That?s exactly what muro?s creators at deviantArt want.

The original concept for muro was to build a simple drawing tool deviantArt members could use for sketching in the site?s forums. But while the developers were working with the prototype, codenamed ?drawplz,? the company?s CEO Angelo Sotira got addicted to using it and asked lead developer Mike Dewey to make a larger version for use on bigger artworks. From there, muro blossomed into a much more robust illustration application.

?[Sotira] said, ?Sometimes I get frustrated that I?m drawing so small,?? Dewey said. ?I said, ?I?ll make it so that it goes full-screen for you,? and that ended up evolving into the full-fledged drawing application.?

It only took a few weeks. Sotira asked for a bigger version in the middle of summer 2010 and muro launched that August. Now deviantArt users fill the site with about 3,100 muro-made images each day even while the program remains in beta. Some artists are even using the program on their iPads, turning the tablet into an electronic sketch book.

Much to the surprise of its creators, muro is also being used for animation by people like Thorne.

?I don?t think any time while we were developing this did we say, ?Yeah, OK, let?s make something for animators,?? Dewey said. ?But once [Thorne] started doing it, I could see why he picked muro. It?s the ease of creation ? when he has an idea, he can have it work it in a day or two rather than creating an entire 3-D model.?

?My imagination becomes the only limitation I have.?

Thorne agrees, adding that as a storyteller, having muro has allowed him to do things he otherwise wouldn?t have been able to pull off without a big budget and far, far more time.

?If I write in a script that the Back to the Future car flies in and crashes through the wall and wood goes flying everywhere like splinters, my imagination becomes the only limitation I have,? Thorne said. ?Because I?m using live-action and muro in combination, it?s like the perfect marriage.?

Mouth-Watering Monday XIV - Nice Girls Read Books ? Book Reviews ...

Mouth-Watering Monday is a new weekly meme started by myself (Brittany) at Nice Girls Read Books. As book bloggers, we love to admire pretty covers, old and new. This meme takes the guilt out of judging a book by its cover, instead embracing it and showing off our favourite finds of the week!

You can show off one or more of your most mouth-watering covers!

The Poison Diaries: Nightshade by Maryrose Wood
Viola in Reel Life by Adriana Trigiani
Legacy by Cayla Kluver
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

I?m still yet to read the first book, The Poison Diaries, but the cover for Nightshade by Maryrose Wood already trumps it?s predecessor. I just adore the colours used. As for Viola in Reel Life and Legacy, I?m a big supporter of artfully placed text. It really rounds out a simple picture and creates an appealing cover. What can I say about Clockwork Prince? In my opinion, Clockwork Angel was a better cover, but this one definitely matches in with the series. I wasn?t quite sure if I liked it at first, but it?s grown on me!

If you want to join in on the fun:

6 Things To Consider When Getting an Online Savings Account ...

A savings account is a great thing to have if you want to manage your money. It is able to accept money from any source and you are able to withdraw money from any ATM machine. However, old savings accounts will require you to line up in your local bank to do simple deposit tasks. This is the reason why Internet banking is born.

From the ordinary savings account, you can now create an online savings account. An online savings account is pretty simple. It is an account that is only offered online. This means that you can literally do your banking in your pajamas and deal with transactions really fast with the Internet.

However, getting an account is a decision that should not be taken lightly. It is best to compare the different factors that come into play. Here are the factors that you should consider when deciding on an online saving account.

Annual Percentage Yield

What I like about this type of account is the interest that you make. Each year, your account can make a particular amount based on a percentage assigned by your bank. This is the annual percentage yield. When deciding on an Internet banking account, it is best to go with an account that has a higher APY.

Existing Relationship with Your Bank

Another factor that you should consider when getting an internet banking account is to look at your existing relationship with your bank. Sometimes, it is best to make an online savings account with the bank that you are currently with. It may even be better because some banks give out perks just for staying with them.

Extra Services

Some banks encourage people to create Internet banking accounts. They usually add other services such as the ability to pay your bills as well as help you get a mortgage. You should choose a plan that has extra services that apply to your circumstances and not just choose a plan based on the amount of extra services.

Money Access

Another thing that you should consider when looking for a provider of online savings accounts is to determine how you will have access to the money. Some accounts will require you to jump through hoops just to withdraw. It will help if you will look for accounts that have an easy access to your money. That way, you can withdraw and deposit money at will.

Customer Service

Since online savings accounts are based on the Internet, it is also a must to consider their customer service. If you are going to decide on a bank, choose one that can address your questions in a timely manner.

Automatic Settings

Last but not the least; also consider your account?s automatic settings. Is it able to save money on auto? Does it pay your bills on auto? These settings can help you save time and effort in dealing with your finances.

These are just some things that you should consider when trying to secure an online savings account. It is undeniable that banking online is convenient. It is able to handle your transactions automatically and you can do it in the comforts of your own home.

VoIP Phone System Versatility From VoIP Service Providers ...

Companies that offer VoIP communication are VoIP service providers. VoIP communication refers to the voice communication data exchange using the Internet.Making and accepting of calls are done through the aid of a broadband Internet connection. This means of managing voice communication data makes VoIP phone systems different from plain old phones that use telephone lines and phone networks. The difference of using the Internet from traditional phone lines when processing communication information is that everything is done at a faster speed and with less problems. Since its communication lines are always open and are not affected by a variety of issues as what happens in traditional phone systems, VoIP phone systems enable you to accept and broadcast calls without any delays.

On the onset, the telecommunication capabilities that are obtained from VoIP service providers did not vary much from what traditional phone companies presented. Both were able to process voice communication operations and nothing more. It has become feasible for a VoIP phone system to accept and respond to voicemail and fax transmissions as the scope of the Internet improved and as advancements was made in the field of VoIP communications. The upgrades that were done made faxing and professional greeting message services accessible in VoIP communication. This provided VoIP communication a large benefit over traditional phones that are still stuck into processing a single method of communication application.

Because VoIP phone system is very controllable, hassles in communication will also be moderated when you use it. To be able to oversee VoIP communication, you do not need to be skilled in Internet communication. As long as you are familiar with sending and receiving of email messages, running a communication system supplied by VoIP service providers will be an easy job. Using an email or an online account, calls, messages, voicemails and fax documents are all sent and received. This helps you reduce your expenses in communication since exchanging of communication data via the Internet is always charged as a local transaction. This means that you will never acquire large long distance communication overheads even if you had a communication transaction with an offshore customer.

Giving you more range and mobility in communication, the VoIP phone system of VoIP service providers is also exploitable outside of your office. Confinements in communication are wiped out when you are using the phone system of a VoIP service provider. You need not be in your office all the time to make sure that you will get all the calls. A VoIP service provider will allow you to use smart phones and laptops as extensions of your company?s communication system. When you employ the phone system of a VoIP service provider, exchanging of information with customers and workers outside of your office becomes a practical option.

This adaptability in communication attained from VoIP service providers will give considerable edge to businesses that hardly stay in a certain area. Regardless of their current location through the help of VoIP phone system, mobile companies and entrepreneurs that do their business on the road will always have the capability to stay in touch with clients.

SEO World | Internet | Google's Taxes on Small Online Businesses

This Shouldn?t Hurt Too Bad

One of the more perverse things about online markets is that since things are not done in person a lot of people are willing to work in the gray area. That allows people like Vitaly Borker to torture his customers as a marketing strategy. ;)

When Stanley Milgram did his famous study on if people were willing to torture others (so long as they thought it was part of a scientific experiment), he found out that the more distance they put between the torturer and torturee the more brutally they would behave. People would dial the voltage up to x if they were holding the hand of the person getting shocked, a bit more if the person was on the other side of a glass wall, and a bit more if they were behind a brick wall.

Fleecing Newbs

Many online economic innovations are ultimately scams, where the cost is hidden, with the scammers operating one step ahead of the legal system. Swoopo was basically a semi-legal form of gambling that took advantage of people?s ignorance of math. As soon as it started working dozens of companies followed suit. The rage was so popular that people would buy overpriced ?credits? to spend their ?credits? to bid on the ability to get more ?credits? at a slightly discounted rate. :D

OMG I Just Lost 3,000 Pounds!

The fake blog (flog) strategy where a woman writes about how she lost 40 pounds in a month due to A?a? & colon cleanse was an economic ?innovation? where affiliates could rope a person into 2 fraudulent reverse billing scams at the same time.

Public relations hacks were quick to adopt the fake blog ?innovation? for their corporate clients & such gems like Walmarting Across America & Working Families for Wal-Mart were born.

In Other ?News?

Affiliates who needed to differentiate from all the other affiliates needed a new round of ?innovation.? So they would take the items or categories or topics they were selling something similar to & add a ?as seen in? section on their websites highlighting how something tangently related to what they are selling was once mentioned in the media in some way.

From there it was a quick jump to fake celebrity endorsements & fake news sites offering ?a special report on how you can get rich overnight? as a millionaire who wants to give back naively shares everything they know for $ 4 shipping in an anyone-can-do automated wealth generation blueprint, while losing 50 pounds in 1 month. :)

Step by Step

Ultimately sales is not an event, but a process. Which is why the above mentioned reverse billing scams only charged shipping off the start, so the perceived risk was lower than the actual risk (much like bad faith insurance companies that take your money until you need what you paid for, and then manage to disappear).

Everyone Pays for Fraud

The scammers eat off the plates of everyone honest in the marketplace. Multiple times a month I get refund requests from people who bought something totally unrelated to us from Clickbank, demanding I give them their money back for something that is in no way related to us. I highlight that refunds at clickbank.com is where they need to send their emails, but for every person who manages to get their money back there are likely 5 or 10 more people who are disillusioned & less trusting of online markets & online marketers.

Google Polices Scams *Everyday*

Circling back to the SEO & PPC niche, Google has to deal with the scams & scammers every day. In certain cases where it is exceptionally profitable (say illegal prescription drugs, knock off goods, Obama mortgage modification) Google may choose to look the other way / have lax policy enforcement, but at some point looking the other way creates financial risks & a risk of brand damage.

Doing What is Easy = Doing What is Best?

Generally when it comes down to it, Google?s revenues are heavily concentrated & no matter how widespread or profitable any individual scam is, they can cut it out of their ad network without being overly concerned. Last September AdAge shared data showing that there are around a couple thousand advertisers spending over $ 10,000 a month on Google ads. While the longtail concept is widely praised, in the search ecosystem it reflects more on products rather than merchants. Some time ago SEM Rush sent me the following chart highlighting AdWords spend breakdown estimates.

Their numbers are based off of the publicly shared Google keyword estimates (which generally skew toward trying to get advertisers to spend more), and I believe they may count certain AdWords ad management platforms as being 1 advertiser each, but yet again Pareto principal appears in the data & Google could keep roughly 80% of their US search revenues if they only accepted ads from the top 5,000 advertisers (out of more than 300,000). And those estimates were before Google widely launched their CPA product ads, which only further consolidate traffic to a smaller number of websites.

Ultimately Google can try to police an ecosystem of x thousand companies or an ecosystem of x million companies. The latter will have more innovations in it, but also a wider variety of scams & be much more expensive to police. This is a big part of the reason Google has felt the need to become more & more portal-like over time. Their engineering culture assumes that they can do it better internally.

Depending on how your positioned, their anti-innovation ?do what is easy? approach to search can either be a boon or a major hindrance. The companies that were worried about maintaining complex search strategies which sorta fell into top rankings on the Google brand +1 obviously benefited. But Panda (and Google?s approach to AdWords) keep raising the bar on smaller businesses.

I thought it would be worth highlighting a few examples:

Google Arbitrage Tax

A friend recently had their AdWords account penalized for running an ?arbitrage? business model.

  • the site wasn?t advertising for revenues, but to build links & awareness
  • the ad campaign was inactive
  • the site had since been sold & the buyer added another ad unit to the page

To appreciate how arbitrary the above editorial judgement is against that webmaster, not only were they 0% responsible for the alleged editorial infractions, but 3 hours after the sincere ?notification only? email Google did a follow up which said the site was once again approved to advertise, but the ads need to be re-submitted for review.

We live in a world where flagrantly parasitic sites like Mahalo required ?an algorithm? (with endless collateral damage) to fix & yet the above sequence is somehow a reasonable way for Google to treat there paying customers.

Much like there is ?too big to fail? there is also ?too small to matter? but if you look at Google?s numbers you can see how that happens. We are basically expecting them to be better than all other monopolies if we expect a level playing field.

Google Disclosure Tax

Some smaller advertisers may get their AdWords campaigns disabled because they offer a freeware trial, where a person has to buy the full version to unlock all of it?s features. Google suggests that these advertisers lead with the disclaimer that a customer may eventually spend a Dollar if they like what they are trying, but sales is a process rather than an event. Sometimes you first have to show proof of value before people are willing to spend money. The problem is that if you are paying for every click & you have to lead with your disclaimer of potential cost for a full upgrade (and so on) then you are not going to be able to compete with a larger brand that does not need to clearly display disclaimers.

The flip side of the above is that Groupon can put their TOS in a foreign language & it is no big deal.

You can only have a strong conversion-oriented page with message clarity if you are a brand, otherwise you need to LEAD WITH THE DISCLAIMERS, which never works if you are paying by the click in an efficient market if you are taxed x% of conversions upfront. Not only are brands given leeway, but Google also allows their own products & services to routinely violate the terms of service they push onto others. The footer on Google Advisor states ?The information displayed here was provided directly from the issuer and/or collected from the issuer?s website. Check the details pages for each offer for the data source and update time. Google is not currently being paid for these listings.?

Note the ?NOT CURRENTLY.? So everyone else is required to place the entire info harvesting policy next to the form, but Google can have a ?google protects you from spam, Learn more? link which they specifically prohibit just linking to as an AdWords advertiser. Where do you see EXPLICITYLY how you can opt out of communications? Look at the table at the bottom of this page.

If you are creative enough you can say that disclosure doesn?t have to kill conversions, but the problem is that sometimes it does. And when it does, it is not like there are many other avenues for you to compete online. In some markets Google owns over 95% of the search marketshare.

The brands always have the flexibility of setting up a mini-site to test if unbranded works better, but the non-branded smaller advertiser doesn?t have the option of using similar textual formatting to their larger competitors.

Google Data Harvesting Tax

Online self-regulation of ad networks is going slow because ad networks prefer to focus on arbitrary technical limitations (that they can later worm around) rather than focusing on the real world impacts of how people are profiled.

Part of the reason Google & Facebook are willing to invest into smearing each other publicly is they are trying to damage each other?s brands so the other is trusted less, so that they may build an asymmetrical information advantage.

The big issue with data harvesting is that one company?s sales funnel or cross-marketing campaign is another?s data harvesting scheme. Just like the tax on disclaimers, this is another area where larger businesses of scale get an economic advantage by being able to get more benefit of the doubt on their approach

Google?s I am Duplicate Content Tax

In the past I highlighted how some webmasters have trouble ranking for their own content due to duplication & how it could even impact their ability to buy ads. Ultimately this leads to some level of fear & indecisiveness amongst many small business owners who may become afraid to have duplicate content anywhere on their sites.

While these businesses are told they don?t add enough value, the biggest players grow through acquisition & duplication:

  • Google runs a product search engine, Boutiques.com & Like.com.
  • Google runs Google video search, Youtube & Vevo.
  • Bankrate runs Bankrate.com, CreditCardGuide.com, CreditCardSearchEngine.com, Interest.com, CreditCards.com, and NationwideCardServices.
  • Expedia runs Expedia.com, Hotwire.com, Hotels.com, TripAdvisor.com, & tons of smaller niche websites

Google Link Buying Penalty Tax

The Panda update made it so that certain businesses did not need to build (m)any links to compete, while some other businesses were required to build many more links to stay competitive.

Around Mother?s Day there was a hit piece in the NYT about how some online flower sites were buying links. Google?s official take was that they did not care about the link buying since those brand rankings (allegedly) did not impact the search results. Today those same link buyers rank #?s 1-4 in Google

Brands rank because Google puts weight on brand-like signals (and they can get away with link buying which smaller competitors would get torched for). Then Google claims that the link buying is irrelevant because it doesn?t influence the search results.

With that sort of circular logic why does Google even care about paid links at all? Why do they arbitrarily police one segment of the web?

On the flip side, there is a suspicion of smaller webmasters which is core to how Google operates (even if the site they are passing judgement on ranks right at the top of the search results for core industry keywords & is linked to organically from top newspapers). Sometimes it is a ?shoot first, ask questions later? approach.

Google recently started sending out ?unnatural link profile? notification emails. Well if they can detect that the link profile is unnatural then why can?t they automatically discount it? (Didn?t they just say they do that?)

Why, in this instance, do they suggest they can identify the problems & that a business owner should first be penalized for it, then need to fix it before reconsideration, all the while some larger businesses do the same exact things but Google looks the other way because they claim to have already detected it?

Why does one form of detection require penalization while the other doesn?t?

Unstable Business Tax

During the Panda update many small businesses (which did nothing wrong other than participating on the same Internet that the likes of eHow abuses) got torched. They were given abstract qualities where they need to improve on. Over 3 months later they are still in the dark hoping the penalty clock hits zero before the bankruptcy clock does.

When traffic heads south & becomes unreliable a business not only loses that income, but it also loses negotiating leverage with suppliers.

The uncertainty not only retards investment, but may lead to physical, emotional, social & mental health issues. People make better life decisions when they are driven by love than when they are driven by fear.

Localization

The one big counter-trend to the move away from small businesses is Google?s increased emphasis on localization, which allows some small local businesses to participate in search markets that they were simply priced out of in years past.

Learn Currency Trading ? How People With No Trading Experience Became Trading Legends in Just 14 Day

By: Kelly Price
Posted: May 09, 2008
Views: 110

Back in the nineteen eighties, a group of people with no trading experience took part in an experiment to learn currency trading in just 14 days. The result? They want on to make hundreds of millions of dollars. How? Let?s take a look.

The group I am referring to above were nicknamed ?the turtles? and the experiment was conducted by trading legend Richard Dennis.

Dennis wanted to prove that anyone no matter what there age, occupation or educational background, could learn to trade and he set out to prove it.

The people chosen were a mixed group:

A female auditor, a security guard, an actor, a kid fresh from school and some professional card players, to name just a few.

Dennis taught them a simple long term trend following method (essentially a breakout system) and strict money management. They completed their training and when onto make 0 million in just 4 years. Dennis had proved his point.

At this stage you may be asking yourself a question:

If it?s that easy to learn to trade and anyone can, why do 95% of traders lose?

Learn To Trade Forex ? Advice From A Group Of Traders Who Made Millions

The real lesson to learn from this article and make part of your forex education is:

Anyone can learn to trade ? but few people have the mindset to turn this potential into profit. Some more explanation will make this clear.

The formula for forex trading success is simple and is:

Robust Logical Currency Trading System + Discipline to Follow = Financial Success.

Dennis knew that learning the trading system was the easy bit ? executing it with discipline is of course the hard part. He taught them something more than a logical trading system ? he taught them the mindset to accept responsibility and have confidence in what they were doing so, they could trade with discipline through losing periods.

Many people have good currency trading systems but lack the discipline to stay with them when losses occur. If you don?t have discipline, you don?t have a trading system. You must follow your trading signals exactly as your system tells you!

Most traders think they can follow someone else or buy a forex robot with a simulated track record and win and they get wiped out.

They don?t really understand what their doing, don?t have discipline and lose.

To win at forex trading requires a method (if you avoid the myths), you can get a simple trading system together that?s robust and can win. Keep in mind the trading system should be simple (just like the one the turtles used) as simple systems work best.

Then, you need to learn discipline and anyone who tells you its easy hasn?t traded!

It?s hard but again it?s a learned skill and if you have confidence in what you are doing you can trade with discipline.

Will you become as rich as the turtles?

Probably not, life simply isn?t like that ? but there is a chance you could and furthermore, you can achieve success and earn a lucrative income at your own level and for the effort you put in forex trading can give you a huge reward.

Anyone can do it. Sure it?s a challenge ? but it?s a challenge you can take on, win and achieve currency trading success if you learn currency trading the right way.
