Time change for Winter Classic necessitates programming moves by NBC Sports, NBC Sports Network
The start time of the NHL Winter Classic Monday has been pushed back, and that has necessitated some programming changes for NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network (the channel formerly known as Versus).
The game between the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, has been moved from 1 to 3 p.m. The NHL said in a statement that the revised start time is based on tomorrow's weather forecast and should offer optimal game conditions for
players and fans.
NBC Sports will still go on the air at 1 p.m. with an extended pregame show.
The change from Versus to NBC Sports Network will still be at 4 p.m. with "NBC SportsTalk," into a NHL Winter Classic post-game show.
The hockey documentary "Cold War on Ice: Summit Series ?72," which looks back at the classic 1972 eight-game series between Canada and the Soviet Union, will now air at 6 p.m. It had been scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
"NHL Live" follows the documentary at 7:30 p.m. NBCSN will then show the San Jose Sharks at Vancouver Canucks at 8 p.m.
