Obama's political group raises modest $4.8 million

(AP) ? The independent group backing President Barack Obama's policy agenda raised a modest $4.8 million in the first quarter of 2013.

In an email to supporters, Organizing for Action says more than 109,000 people donated money to the new group. The average donation was about $44.

The group was formed earlier this year by several former Obama campaign staffers and has access to the presidential campaign's extensive voter and donor lists. Its goal is to promote the president's agenda, including gun control and immigration reform.

But the light fundraising totals underscore the difficulty the group will face in recreating the fundraising prowess of Obama's presidential campaign machine.

OFA is not accepting corporate donations and says it will disclose the identity of its donors and amount of money they contribute.
