Anaka Alankamony outplayed Emily Whitlock ? SportsStatus

In the women?s World junior squash championship being held in Boston,

Anaka Alankamony started on a rousing note. She beat the European junior champion and semifinalist in the individual events, Emily Whitlock. Anaka outplayed her opponent for two-and-a-half games to lead 6-2 in the third. Whitlock pulled one back but the Indian kept her focus going and grabbed the fourth game and the match.

Taking a leaf from Anaka?s grand show, Aparajitha Balamurukan provided a glimpse of her fighting abilities. Down two games to Victoria Temple-Murray, the Indian fought back, surviving a match ball and racing away to a great win in 44 minutes.

With the Indians taking a winning lead, the third match scheduled between Saumya Karki and Katie Smith became redundant.

India faces USA in one semifinal while Egypt takes on Hong Kong in the other.
